Architectural Design Project
1A - Pre-Design Studies & Analysis
This collaborative phase involved investigating KOMTAR Walk through site observation, urban analysis, and user studies. The findings identified fragmented pedestrian movement, low dwell time, limited greenery, weak social interaction, and poor thermal comfort. Understanding these physical and socio-cultural conditions helped establish the target users, project programme and design strategies for a responsive, community-focused urban farming hub.
1B - Design Strategies & Explorations
Building upon the findings from Project 1A, this individual phase translated the relationships between people, place, and project into architectural strategies. Through iterative studies of spatial organisation, massing, circulation, materiality, and environmental response, the AMITY Urban Farming Hub was progressively developed. Tutor feedback and critical exploration helped refine the concept of a Vertical Urban Commons into a clearer and more responsive design proposal.
1C — Design Development & Finalisation
This final phase developed AMITY into a fully resolved architectural proposal by integrating spatial, environmental, structural and technical considerations. Passive cooling, façade design, materiality, accessibility, fire safety and regulatory compliance were refined alongside the building’s urban farming systems. The final outcome presents a coherent, sustainable and buildable design that supports the project’s community and environmental objectives.
